In my youth I was continuously involved in sports, from soccer and gymnastics to cheerleading and tae kwon do, so as I got older and was no longer active in those anymore, I quickly knew I needed something more than just the traditional gym setting for my workouts. I would religiously work out at Planet Fitness and YMCA type centers, even trying things like Zumba and Cycle classes because I craved something that gave me the same rush as scoring a goal on the field or sticking my landing on a tumbling pass. I never found that feeling I was looking for, never REALLY pushed myself to do more than just typical weight lifting sets and I certainly never made myself do any significant amount of cardio because I would quickly grow bored of being at the gym. That all changed when my husband introduced me to CrossFit while we were stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. I finally found what I had been looking for! It didn’t take long before I was in the best shape of my life and belonged to a community of athletes who effortlessly became friends and I have never looked back since.
From there, my Chiropractic practice evolved into what it is today. As I began to do WODs with people that knew I was a chiropractor, they started to ask me for advice and recommendations to improve their performance and recovery or ask me specific questions about an injury. Thanks to word of mouth, before I knew it, several of the patients I was seeing in my office were from the box. People wanted a doctor who understood the intensity and demand of CrossFit and how to treat the body that had just done a METCON or AMRAP workout. I quickly realized that it made more sense to bring my practice to the people where they needed it the most, right in the box, so I bought a portable adjusting table and my CrossFit Chiro practice was born. Fast Forward a few years to 2016 and here we are living on this beautiful island we call Okinawa and I am once again honored to be able to do what I love most, work with athletes of all levels and belong to the CrossFit Habu community!!!
